| I'm jealous. I take it that hole is for the exhaust?
I saw you chit chatting about a custom swing out on the blue room but I had no idea you were already setting things in motion (I've been absent from here for a bit).

| Yup, the hole is for the exhuast. I'm sick of smashing them. Hopefully it will all be done by Summit. Too bad your not going to be there this year Brett. Paige and I were talking last night about how that's a bummer. | |

Greg, You're always drooling on yourself. At least this time it's justified.

| So far this is the only rear bumper that I would have. I would be number two in line after you Brad. | |

| Don't think I'll be building another. The cross member was easy. The wings and swing out have been a pain. I knew the wings would be the toughest part. I shouls have hit up Demello or EX1 and bought the wings. Still planning on having this done for Summit! | |

| Here is the hub for the swing out I machined. IMG_0324 by cnckart, on Flickr Upper bearing installed. IMG_0327 by cnckart, on Flickr Lower bearing and seal installed. IMG_0326 by cnckart, on Flickr Did the bondo, and primer on the wings tonight. I need to make a filler piece between the body and my cross member/bumper for aesthetic reasons. Next up is the swing out rack itself. So far I'm still on schedule. | |

| I think the biggest reason there aren't more aftermarket rear bumpers for the FJ is because of the difficulty in incorporating the bumper in with the rest of the truck in an aesthetically pleasing way.
Looks great Brad. Really jealous of your mad metal working skills!

| Thanks Ernie! The wings were the biggest challenge by far. I too am not a huge fan of the aftermarket bumpers on the market. Especially if they don't have a swing out. What's the point? You don't pick up any clearance over stock, and we all know what the price for a swing out is. I decided I'd get the best of both worlds on this one! | |

| Tonight I finalized the swing out. It was nice and quiet the first day of Summit, but day two it started making some noise. I got some real rubber bump stops (actually they are poly) and also re did the door plate with contact plates for said bumpers. It's nice having your camel back right over your shoulder.:bigthumb: IMG_0359 by cnckart, on Flickr | |
