Pony Express Trail Excursion

It's been a few weeks and I've been tied up on a project, but I finally got around to posting a report from our weekend excursion.

We decided to break in the LC with a nice off road excursion and camping trip. Our two oldest weren't in to going but Drew and Jimmy came along. Chrissy and the kids weren't to keen on another camping trip, mainly because of some multiple tent failures this year, but that changed when they found out I picked up a Spring Bar.

The trip started off in Wendover and after about 20 plus miles we left the road.



Our first stop was in the old mining town of Gold Hill.







For those of you that haven't been out here it's just a dirt road, no challenge at all, but very remote so come prepared.



























With daylight running out quickly we were scrambling for a good campsite. Fortunately we followed a trail that lead us to an area around the Cactus, Emma, Wilson and Utah mines that was sheltered from the wind and hidden from view of the road.











Oh yeah, keep an eye out for the local critters. This Tarantula lost his fight to the Tarantula Hawk. Unfortunately we didn't get a photo of the Scorpion chilling under our tent.

Looks like a lot of fun. I did that trail with my parents when i was about 15. I'd love to get out there again. We went the other way though. Started at 5 mile, and ended up in Wendover.

Without kids that's probably the way to go. Then you can spend the evening in Bendover.
