| The important part of a front bumper is the winch mount. Aluminum can do this job just fine, however I would make the mounting plate at least .5" thick. That may be over kill, but that is something you don't want to fail when you really need it. Aluminum is a lot more $ than steel for the raw material, it is also a lot harder to weld. I can MIG steel all day long (not that great mind you, but it works) I can't weld aluminum to save my life. Whoever you have fab out of aluminum is going to have to have some serious welding skills. Not to discourage you, just want you to understand what it takes. I love home brew projects and can't wait to see what you come up with. | |

| I think tube front bumpers are they way to go. id love to fab my own so its just the way i want it but i dont have all the tool. I was looking at the Metal Tech front tube bumper. looks sick and you can have a bash plate or winch set up. but doing custum things are the best. i have a defender roor rach on my fj that no one had adapter mounts for it so i just used some U bolts to attach it. cant wait to hear how your build is going. wade | |
